BODY ARMOR 101: BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA BODY ARMOR TESTING
In this episode of Body Armor 101, Rob Orgel of ER Tactical demonstrates blunt force trauma with the aid of Critical Care Paramedic Mike Pena. For body armor, stoping a bullet is just first part of protecting the wearer from harm. Preventing secondary injuries such as blunt force trauma is vital to staying in the fight. Using an anatomic representation of a human torso from Ballistic Dummy Lab, Rob and Mike discuss the potential injuries from various types of impacts from 9MM, .50AE and M855. While each type of body armor has its own unique properties when it comes to back face deformation, we closely follow the NIJ standards for back face deformation (44mm) which is tested in a laboratory setting with the use of a clay backer. The "test" in this video simply offers a visual demonstration, but with the medical perspective from a long time field medic. Spartan Armor Systems® manufacturers all proven types of body armor including ceramic, steel, UHMWPE, and aramid fibers allowing our customers to select the best body armor for their personal protection needs.
